Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin, D-Ill., on Wednesday chastised GOP members of the Senate Judiciary Committee for threatening a new probe into how law enforcement investigated Hillary Clinton’s private email server during a hearing on special counsel Robert Mueller’s report.
Durbin, a senior member on the panel, said the GOP “is going to coordinate on the ‘lock her up’ defense,” of President Trump, referring to a phrase often chanted during Trump’s 2016 campaign rallies.
“It’s really about Hillary Clinton’s emails,” Durbin said. “Finally, we get down to the bottom line.”
Durbin was responding to Chairman Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., who used part of his opening statement to make the case the Clinton’s email server was probed by law enforcement agents who despised Trump and favored a Clinton White House victory.
“These are the people who made the decision Clinton didn’t do anything wrong and that a counterintelligence investigation of the Trump campaign was warranted,” Graham said.
Durbin mocked the GOP for raising Clinton.
“That is totally unresponsive to the reality of what the American people want to know,” Durbin said.
