Ted Crockett, a spokesman for Republican Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore, said Tuesday Moore “probably” still believes “homosexual conduct” should be illegal because it’s “a sin.”
“It’s what my Bible tells me, the Old Testament and the New Testament,” Crockett told CNN when asked directly about the conservative former judge’s position on same-sex relationships during a bizarre interview with Jake Tapper.
“You people want to take the whole 2 or 3,000 years of our history and y’all just want to throw it out the window as if you’re just going to make your own rules, your own manmade rules and do whatever you want in sin, and that’s part of the problem we’ve got in Washington, D.C. today, Jake,” Crockett continued.
Moore stated in a 2005 interview with C-SPAN2’s “After Words” homosexual conduct was illegal, later comparing gay sex to bestiality.
Crockett demurred when asked what the penalty should be for someone caught engaging in such conduct, but said he was confident Moore will prevail over Democratic challenger Doug Jones in Alabama’s Dec. 12 special election.
“The reason people support Judge Moore in the state of Alabama is because he [believes in] a Biblically-based custom law of the bible, the Mosaic English law,” he said. “Homosexuality is a sin in the biblical sense. That is where Roy Moore is in the state of Alabama.”
Polls for the hotly contested race close at 8 p.m.
