Today’s Kudo nods go to student atheletes from across the region.

Chris Baldwin

Occupation: Student-athlete at Johns Hopkins

Home: Southampton, N.J.

Achievement: The senior safety set a school record with three defensive touchdowns in a season-opening, 34-3 victory over St. Lawrence at Homewood Field on Saturday. Baldwin scored on interception returns of 45 and 28 yards and returned a fumble 32 yards to lead the Blue Jays to open the season with a win for the 10th time in the past 12 years.

Morgan Warrington

Occupation: Student-athlete at UMBC

Home: Magnolia, Del.

Achievement: The sophomore defender scored the only goal in the women’s soccer team’s 1-0 victory over visiting Sacred Heart on Friday night. Warrington’s goal on a breakaway in the 74th minute was the Retrievers’ first goal of season and improved their record to 1-4.

Wes Powell

Occupation: Student-athlete at Navy

Home: Jackson, N.J.

Achievement: The freshman forward scored his first career goal in the 100th minute to give the Midshipmen a 2-1 victory over Adelphi in the first game of the UMBC Adidas Kickoff Classic in Catonsville on Friday. Powell scored with 38 seconds left in the first overtime when he delivered a shot inside the left post from 22 yards away to improve Navy’s record to 1-1.

Katie O’Donnell

Occupation: Student-athlete at Maryland

Home: Blue Bell, Pa.

Achievement: The sophomore forward scored four goals in the second-ranked field hockey team’s 8-1 victory over eighth-ranked Old Dominion on Friday in College Park. O’Donnell has a team-high five goals and an assist for the Terrapins (3-0), whose eight goals against the Lady Monarchs were their most since 2003.

Sean Schaefer

Occupation: Student-athlete at Towson University

Home: Dunkirk, Md.

Achievement: The senior quarterback became the school’s all-time leading passer by throwing for 243 yards on 18-of-25 passing and three touchdowns in a  21-16 victory over Morgan State at Johnny Unitas Stadium on Saturday. Schaefer’s 8,931 career passing yards eclipsed Dan Crowley’s 8,900 from 1991 to 1994.
