Two-time Olympic medalist Michelle Kwan is joining former Vice President Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign as a surrogates director.
The figure skater, who was a surrogate outreach coordinator for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, shared the news on Instagram. She said Biden can “unify America” again.
“I know that there is already a field of incredible democratic candidates and the 2020 election is so important we cannot lose sight of the big picture,” Kwan said Thursday. “Ultimately, I believe that the Vice President is the ideal candidate to unify our country with his experience, knowledge and track record of fighting for Americans.”

She touted Biden’s “reputation for getting things done,” listing his work with former President Barack Obama to pass the Affordable Care Act, his push for LGBTQ rights, his fight against global warming, and how “he has earned the respect of the international community.”
“He’s the candidate that I’m proud to support because he will do what it takes to restore the soul of this nation, rebuild the backbone of the country, and unify America,” Kwan concluded.
Kwan, 38, won the silver medal in the 1998 Olympics and the bronze medal in the 2002 games.
Biden announced his candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination Thursday morning with a video. It is his third run for the White House. Among the people who have joined his campaign is Symone Sanders, the national press secretary from Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign.
Biden joined a crowded field of politicians vying for the Democratic Party’s nomination, including Sens. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass.
Biden has led most polls, despite only just entering the race; he leads the field with 29.3% on the RealClearPolitics average of polls.
