The Democratic National Committee garnered criticism for scheduling only six debates during the primary season. Critics and supporters of front-runner Hillary Clinton’s primary opponent Bernie Sanders said the decision was made to help Clinton.
But the general election presidential debates were scheduled in September 2015 by the Commission on Presidential Debates an independent, nonpartisan panel that sponsors and produces the debates.
The first presidential debate will take place on Sept. 26. The single vice presidential debate will be on Oct. 4, the second presidential debate is on Oct. 9 and the last debate on Oct. 19. The debates on Sept. 26 and Oct. 9 coincide with prime-time football games.
