Gas prices: An increase of five cents per gallon in last three days

Published March 21, 2025 6:22am ET

Gas prices climbed for the third consecutive day this week, with the national average price for a gallon of regular gas at $3.129 on Friday, according to AAA.com. The latest price is five cents per gallon higher than Tuesday’s $3.078 fuel cost.

The increases at the pumps come just days after President Donald Trump and his administration touted cheaper gas prices throughout the country. Technically, this is still true, given that, even with the recent increase in gas prices in the last few days, costs are still less expensive than a month ago when a gallon of regular gas was $3.162. Fuel costs are also substantially cheaper than a year ago when former President Joe Biden was in office, and the average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.527.
