Hacked: Podesta said ‘Yup’ to Chamberlain, Obama echo

Hillary Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta said “Yup” in response to a quote from a Republican senator who condemned the Iranian nuclear deal and compared President Obama to Neville Chamberlain, according to emails published by WikiLeaks.

Podesta made the remark in response to a July 15, 2015 email from Washington pollster John Anzalone, who sent a comment from Illinois Sen. Mark Kirk about the deal that allowed Iran to retain its nuclear centrifuges and continue enriching uranium.

“This agreement condemns the next generation to cleaning up a nuclear war in the Persian Gulf,” Kirk said. “This is the greatest appeasement since Chamberlain gave Czechoslovakia to Hitler.” Podesta responded to the email, which had as its subject “You call it,” to say only “Yup.”

It is not clear whether Podesta was affirming his agreement with the quote or if he intended some other meaning. Kirk, who is running a tight race for reelection this year, was quick to contend that Podesta was expressing his agreement, telling local media it represented “recognition from leaders of both parties that the Iran Deal is tragic and dangerous.”

The message was included in a trove of 7,199 emails obtained from Podesta’s personal Gmail account that have been published by WikiLeaks since Friday. The messages have exposed a host of offensive and divisive comments that Podesta exchanged with Democratic luminaries, ranging from Podesta’s suggestion that Clinton seek support from “needy Latinos” to routine name-calling of reporters by Clinton’s staff.
