Rockville-based software company FileTek has acquired McLean-based Trusted Edge in a deal announced Thursday.

Though the firms will merge, not all workers from Trusted Edge will join FileTek.

“We concentrated on purchasing the intellectual product of the company,” FileTek spokeswoman Sandy Cornfield said. She “was not at liberty” to say how many Trusted Edge workers would lose their jobs in the takeover but said some staff would be let go.

“We have assumed responsibility for Trusted Edge,” she said. “It’s a viable product.”

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. FileTek provides data and information management software, while Trusted Edge developed content management systems. The merger will allow FileTek software to be used as a desktop application to search the content of materials including documents and e-mail.

“Now, as Trusted Edge’s software becomes an integral part of FileTek’s product offerings, the company is extremely well-positioned to provide quality software, service and support to the desktop-based software applications market,” FileTek Chief Executive Officer William Loomis said. “I look forward to implementing FileTek’s success in this new business venture.”
