Trump’s supporters don’t like opening their wallets to investigate Russiagate

In President Trump’s retweet on Sunday of writer William Craddick, we gained insight into just how far many Trump “Russiagate” supporters are willing to go to reveal the truth.

And it’s not very far.

Consider the first two tweets below, the first of which was re-tweeted by Trump.

As of just after midday Monday, that first tweet had received more than 7,500 retweets and more than 23,000 likes. But what about the second tweet? You know, the one in which Craddick asks those who support his thesis of a British conspiracy to go a little further and support his work to unveil it. Craddick does so by linking to his Patreon page.

That tweet did far less well. As of just after midday that tweet had just over 60 retweets and 200 likes.

Yes, the different reaction to the two tweets can be partly explained by Trump’s retweet of one and not the other. But if the Russiagate conspiracy against the president is real, surely its believers would want to help unveil it?

Think again. As of midday Monday, Disobedient Media’s Patreon page shows just three patrons. Yes, three. Not exactly a ringing endorsement of Craddick’s thesis.

Of course, Craddick has reason for hope. Having now received a presidential retweet and in light of the fact that Russian intelligence services love using crowdfunding websites like Patreon as a veiled means of supporting their allies, Craddick can probably expect some generous donations pretty soon.
