The American system of government is in danger. Freedom, democracy, rule of law, and our republican form of government are under attack by both parties — and there’s reason to worry how well our safeguards will hold up to these attacks.

If you are a Democrat, it’s easy to see the danger posed by former President Donald Trump, who refuses to accept that he lost in 2020 and who openly threatens to prosecute his political opponents. Having a president like that undermines our tradition and norms around the use and transfer of power, and in particular, electing a candidate after such a performance is corrosive.
