Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., supposedly refused a handshake this week from Betsy DeVos, President-elect Trump’s pick to head the Department of Education.
The alleged snub came Tuesday after a contentious Senate confirmation hearing in which Warren and DeVos sparred over their very different positions on private versus public education. They also differed on whether the government should play a larger or smaller role in funding schools.
It’s not clear from the C-SPAN footage whether Warren actually intentionally snubbed DeVos, though the senator clearly waves off the education secretary nominee. Whether Warren meant the gesture as a slight is certainly up for interpretation, which will likely be informed by your own political biases. So your mileage may vary.
The Health, Education, Labor, and Pension Committee is scheduled to vote on DeVos’ nomination next Tuesday.
