Former President Donald Trump has been ahead in nearly every poll for the Republican presidential nomination for the 2024 election for over a year now. Tuesday’s primary in New Hampshire gave him a second straight victory. And even though 48 states still haven’t held nominating contests yet, it’s abundantly clear that short of any unforeseen circumstances, Trump will be the Republican nominee. It’s now time for him to focus on winning the general election against President Joe Biden.
Trump’s campaign and supporters celebrated the victory in New Hampshire last night, and social media was littered with posts relishing his win. However, getting super excited over a New Hampshire primary, especially when seemingly every poll that ever existed showed Trump being victorious, is like scoring a touchdown in a preseason football game. Sure, it’s exciting, but it’s not worth celebrating as if it were some major accomplishment.
The main goal is to win in November. There is a lot of work left to be done and not a lot of time to do it. Republican primaries are not general elections, and winning in November will be a daunting task. Trump has to convince millions of voters who are not Republicans to vote for him. He has run for president twice and has yet to win the popular vote in either election.
Obviously, the presidential election is determined by Electoral College votes. However, counting on an Electoral College victory without the popular vote is, while not impossible, unlikely and not a reliable strategy for success. It is especially true considering Trump already defied those odds in 2016. Lightning in a bottle rarely strikes twice.
Luckily for Trump, Biden has been an unfathomable disaster. From inflation to the worst border crisis in our nation’s history to years of skyrocketing crime and safety problems and general ineffectiveness in geopolitical matters, Trump has many examples to effectively show why voters should support him in 2024. But he must start doing so now. At this point, devoting any more time and resources to winning primaries is a waste. Trump prevailed, and it is time to move on to plan to win the bigger prize.

Just like every election since 2016, Trump is going to be vilified by liberals, leftists, and the extremist DEI Democrats, along with their accomplices in the mainstream media who will amplify their messages. He will face an even more hostile opponent than in 2016 and 2020. If he is to have any chance at winning, Trump must pivot to making his case now. If his advisers are not telling him to do so right now, it should be considered malpractice, and all of them should be replaced.
There are not any more Republican political rivalries to settle. At this point, celebrating primary election victories is amateur hour. Biden is the opponent now.
