President Obama’s re-election chances remain unchanged despite growing cynicism over the state of the economy, according to a poll released Thursday.
A new Associated Press-GfK survey shows that 47 percent of respondents say Obama deserves re-election, down just one percent from two months ago.

Furthermore, 51 percent of those surveyed said Republican President George W. Bush should absorb the brunt of the blame for a stagnant economy. In comparison, 31 percent say Obama is most responsible.
With unemployment hovering above 9 percent, Republican presidential candidates have homed in on Obama’s economic record, saying that a failed stimulus package and series of big-government spending measures have done little — or nothing — to produce jobs.
And the poll contains many warning signs for a president whose approval rating is teetering around 40 percent.
More than 85 percent of adults label the economy as “poor” and nearly half say the situation has been exacerbated in the past month.
