Climate change deal calls for emissions caps

Representatives of 196 countries reached an agreement on climate change this weekend that would call for each country to cut its greenhouse gas emissions.

The historic agreement caps 20 years of discussions on the issue by the United Nations. The agreement was reached this weekend at talks in Peru, the New York Times reported.

“A global agreement in Paris is now within reach,” climate expert Jennifer Morgan told the Times.

The countries are to submit their plans by the end of the March, Reuters reported.
