[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDuk6dYjocM]The Obama campaign has replied to Mitt Romney’s request for an apology for its having misrepresented his role in outsourcing jobs at Bain Capital with a fresh attack ad, slamming the presumptive GOP nominee for past criticisms of the president.
Romney appeared on CBS, NBC, ABC and Fox Friday to rebut accusations made by the Obama campaign suggesting he was a “felon” and was lying about when he stopped working at Bain Capital. The Obama campaign seized on a Boston Globe report suggesting that he was involved with management decisions at Bain Capital until 2002, rather than early 1999 as Romney has maintained, and used it as part of a renewed assault on Romney. Fact checkers at the Washington Post, FactCheck.org and elsewhere have disputed this claim.
The GOP candidate slammed the Obama strategy calling it beneath the dignity of the president’s office.
“Talk about the issues?” the Obama ad says before launching into a montage of Romney criticizing the president for “not understanding the passion of freedom”; “adopting an appeasement strategy “; and for “apologizing for America” among other criticisms.
“Mitt Romney sure asks for a lot of apologies when he’s not busy launching attacks,” the ad says before launching into a video of former Speaker Newt Gingrich saying Romney’s basic strategy is “carpet bombing his opponent.”
Yet the main difference remains that Romney has not resorted to basing his campaign strategy on a discredited news account.
