Mike Campbell, the press flak for the D.C. field office ofthe Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, got himself Tasered at the ATF academy Monday.
Campbell, a former Illinois State Police officer and U.S. Secret Service agent, went to check out the Taser training “in case, God forbid, something should go wrong, I’d know what I was talking about.”

The training works by having agents Taser each other.
“They were short a guy,” Campbell said. “One of the guys said, ‘We’ve got to have the [public information officer] do it. Give him some credibility.’”
So, how did it go?
“Oh man,” he said. “I’ve never been hit with a sledge hammer, but I think that’s what it would feel like. It was so nice when the power was off and they removed the tongs from my back.
“About all you can do is groan,” Campbell added.
Campbell said he has recovered, but is afraid to go near electric sockets.
“All my socks are stuck to me,” he said. “ I’m 51 years old, man, I’m not supposed to be doing this.”
