Police across Maryland will step up enforcement of seat belt laws in May. Law enforcement officers will focus on ticketing motorists who break the state’s seat belt and child safety seat laws as part of a “Click It or Ticket” campaign. Police will also educate people about the importance of using seat belts and child safety seats.
Maryland law requires that the driver, front seat passenger and all other people in the vehicle under age 16 wear seat belts. Children younger than 8, less than 4 feet 9 inches tall and less than 65 pounds must ride in an approved child safety seat.
Penalties include fines of $25 or more.
