Though it wasn’t exactly a high bar to beat, Obamacare signups went far more smoothly this year.

Nearly 2.5 million people enrolled in health insurance plans on the federal health care exchange in time to get Jan. 1 coverage, according to the Department of Health and Human Services. The final numbers, including the number of those that re-enrolled through the exchange, are expected Tuesday.
DHS officials are optimistic that the final figures will be much higher because at least 500,000 people faced issues reaching help on the exchange call center or had some type of technical difficulties. This is a significant number, but nothing compared to the massive failure of Obamacare’s first enrollment period.
By the numbers, the administration is touting the second rollout as a success.
Obamacare customers who did not go to the exchange to sign up again will be automatically re-enrolled in their same plan or one the government has deemed comparable.
The premiums on these re-enrollments are expected to go up significantly and the administration is expecting another flood to the exchanges before its February 15 deadline for current customers.
