Donald Trump’s stronghold over the Republican presidential field has seemingly stalled, according to a new poll.
The businessman still leads the pack with 25 percent among registered Republican voters in a new national Quinnipiac University survey released Thursday. Last month however, Trump led the pack with 28 percent, making this poll the second major national one in which Trump has seen a drop, as he experienced an 8-point decrease in the CNN/ORC survey released Sunday.
Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson garnered 17 percent, enough to put him in second place — an increase of 5 points from last month. Carly Fiorina, up 7 points, came in third at 12 percent, followed by former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush at 10 percent (plus 3 points), Florida Sen. Marco Rubio at 9 percent (plus 2 points) and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz at 7 percent (no gain).
Fiorina looks to be the biggest winner following the second GOP debate — 28 percent say she won the last weeks tussle — followed by 11 percent for Trump, the next-closest candidate. However, 20 percent also said Trump lost the debate.
The survey of roughly 730 registered Republican voters nationwide was conducted Sept. 17-21 with a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
