A woman was killed and her husband was severely injured in a hit-and-run crash in Wheaton.
The crash happened shortly before 9:45 p.m. Monday after the couple got off a bus near Veirs Mill Road and Centerhill Street. They were struck by a white BMW that was driving east on Veirs Mill Road when they entered the road, according to Montgomery County police.
The driver initially stopped, then fled the scene, police said.
The woman was taken to Suburban Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The husband remained hospitalized Tuesday in critical condition. Their names have not been released because family members are still being notified.
Police said officers found the striking vehicle and its driver nearby. Police identified the driver as 29-year-old Pierre Michel, of Silver Spring. He was not hurt.
