The District has reached a multi-year agreement to host the Maloof Money Cup on a skate park to be built on the RFK Stadium Festival Grounds, Events DC  told the Washington Examiner. The Maloof Cup will be held Sept. 3-4 and tickets are available now at Ticketmaster.

The cup was created by Joe Maloof, owner of the NBA’s Sacramento Kings and the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. This year, the Kings were flirting with a move to Anaheim for financial reasons before deciding to stay put in Sacramento for another year.

The course at RFK is designed by pros Geoff Rowley and Joe Ciaglia’s team at California Skateparks. At 15,000 square feet, the park will be the first major skate park in the District and is inspired by Freedom Plaza and the architecture on Pennsylvania Avenue.

“It was important for us to take design elements from real D.C. skate spots and try to replicate them and hopefully complement them as much as possible,” Rowley said.  “The local skaters will recognize some of these influences like the Freedom Plaza Ledges and the Golden Rail made famous by legendary locals like Pepe Martinez, Chris Hall and many more original DC rippers.”
