Poll: Trump, Carson tied for lead in Iowa

Donald Trump now has some company at the top of Republican presidential polls.

According to a new Monmouth poll, Trump is now tied with former neurosurgeon Ben Carson at 23 percent for the lead in the Iowa caucuses. This is the first poll not to show Trump in sole possession of the lead since mid-July when he overtook Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker for the top spot in the Hawkeye State.

The leaders are followed by former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina with 10 percent — she’s the only other GOP candidate who reaches double digits — and Sen. Ted Cruz at 9 percent.

While the poll shows a massive bump in support for Carson, it shows a steep fall for Walker, who received only 7 percent backing. The Wisconsin governor led in the last Monmouth poll (July 16-19) with 22 percent, and held a 9 point edge over Trump.

Meanwhile, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush pulls only 5 percent, with Sen. Marco Rubio and Ohio Gov. John Kasich rounding out the top eight with 4 percent each.

The poll comes on the heels of Des Moines Register/Bloomberg survey showing Carson trailing Trump 23-18, with the famed neurosurgeon notching an abnormally high 79 percent favorability rating.
